All content is used for promotional purposes.The present invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for detecting electrical conductivity of a ground surface and more particularly, to a method of and an apparatus for detecting contact of a wheel of a vehicle, such as a wheel of an automotive vehicle, with a ground surface.
Japanese Laid-Open Patent Publication No. 64-60693 discloses a wheel slip detecting apparatus in which a ground surface resistance of a wheel is detected and an output of the wheel slip detecting apparatus is inverted when the detected ground surface resistance exceeds a predetermined reference value, in order to permit the apparatus to indicate a wheel slip by means of a ground surface contact output.
With the wheel slip detecting apparatus, an electrical connection between a wheel and a vehicle body is broken when a wheel slips with a wheel being in contact with the ground surface, so that the ground surface resistance changes. Accordingly, when the wheel is in contact with the ground surface, the output of the wheel slip detecting apparatus becomes a high level, whereas when the wheel is not in contact with the ground surface, the output becomes a low level.
The wheel slip detecting apparatus detects the ground surface resistance as a change in voltage, so that the output of the apparatus changes from the high level to the low level as the wheel is in contact with the ground surface, in an approximately linear manner. Accordingly, when the ground surface is wet, for example, a slight change in voltage may cause the wheel slip detecting apparatus to indicate that the wheel is in contact with the ground surface. Further, when the ground surface is dirty, such as in the case of a muddy road, a similar problem may occur.
A possible solution to the problem would be to specify a reference value for the ground surface resistance as being equal to or higher than a predetermined value, when the ground surface resistance of the wheel exceeds the predetermined reference value, and to indicate a wheel slip with a ground surface contact output.
